Dr. Vyas Nagarkar is the author of a series of English textbooks - ‘English for Careers’, which is a notable work in Mainland China.  Her books were included in the syllabus in the Vocational Training Institutes and Universities in multiple provinces in Mainland China, where millions of students have benefitted, since 2010.  Due to the popularity of the textbooks,  revised versions were published in 2014.

E-Books on 'Skills for Careers' are a work in progress, which will be available on Amazon in 2021. The books cover essential soft skills required for jobs in 25 career sectors.

Independent Scholar

Dr. Vyas Nagarkar is also engaged in scholarly work, as an independent scholar.  The findings of her research are converted as a series of public education workshops and seminars.  Some of the examples are -

Food Labelling in Hong Kong: Public Policy and Discursive Practice

She co-investigated in the CERG funded project titled ‘Food Labelling in Hong Kong: Public Policy and Discursive Practice’.  The research was in alignment with The Hong Kong Government's Mandatory Food Labelling Scheme for prepackaged foods which was introduced in 2010 in Hong Kong.  

She organises workshops for consumers, business owners to share the findings of her research which educates them on how to read, write and understand Food Labels and help them make informed food choices; as well as other relevant consumer communication topics.

Advertising in Multicultural Contexts

She has developed a strategic research agenda on a cross-cultural study of advertising communication.  This focus has produced an impressive collection of conference papers and other publications that are under progress.  Her work and analysis of TV commercials across cultures received much recognition internationally.  Target audiences of the research are government, policymakers, educators, marketers and businesses, in addition to non-profit organisations that want to make an impact among consumers across cultures.

FICTIONAL REALITY COMMUNICATION METHOD ©

Advertising as 'Fictional Reality Communication' was coined by Dr. Rita Vyas Nagarkar in her Ph.D research two decades ago.  Her research on genre of Advertising focussed on the construction of advertising from inception to launch in the myriad advertising media.  The method helps to undertake a comprehensively thick description of advertising to examine its various facets and provides an in-depth grounded analysis of multiple stages and numerous strategies that are employed in the construction of this vastly complex form of communication.  The study presented a multi-perspective model to comprehensively decode advertising communication easily and precisely through un-tangling hidden messages, strategic moves, ideologies, linguistic and cross-cultural realisations. 

 

Fictional Reality Communication Method is extremely useful for -

(1) Students of advertising and professional communication because it simplifies putting the pieces of advertising communication together.  

(2) Advertisers and creative specialists to articulate a clear purpose, and increase the validity of advertising pre-tests. 

(3) Analysis of film genres, visual communication and other creative industries in order to assess the effectiveness of the objectives and explain why one work is more successful than other.

(4) It aims to benefit the businesses monitor and analyse their marketing campaigns. Big businesses and SME's could dig in to monitor and analyse their advertising campaigns and decide whether to spend more money on them.
